There is something very attractive about a listening to a person excited about what they are saying.
Many times, the conversation is more interesting and enjoyable because there is an energy that is associated with the person talking. You want to leave this type of impression with pharma professionals when speaking with them.
In this article, I will explain how bringing your energy and passion, can help the transition to work in the pharma industry.
In my previous blogs, I tried to describe the importance of good communication and resourcefulness in your transition to the pharma industry. However, in my first article, I described energy in terms of having the drive to see your projects come to completion. This is important because there will be setbacks, and you need to have the passion to overcome these challenges. This is nothing new to you because you have run into this in your academic work. You needed this same passion to finish your grants and papers. However, science is completed differently in pharma, and you need to be open to this change and have the desire to be successful here.
It may not be as obvious that you need this same passion and energy in the process of finding a career in pharma. This can be a difficult period of your career, and you need to have energy and passion to endure the ups and downs of this chase. Here are some things that can help you find the energy and ways to maintain it during your transition to industry.
Finding your energy
1. Define why you want to work in pharma industry (What is your motivation?)
2. Define how your work will be an expression of one of your values, passions, or desires to make an impact
3. Define how you transfer from steps 1 to 2 into actionable steps so that you can see progress
Maintaining your energy
1. Picture yourself receiving that congratulatory handshake at the end of your interview
2. Look for things that will inspire you during this process
3. Surround yourself with people that will inspire and help you during the difficult times
4. Enjoy the small individual steps of this process. Appreciate any form of progress no matter the size of it.
Summary
The energy that you bring to this process of transitioning to work in pharma is important. The process is shorter for some people and longer for others. The important thing is to have the energy to make it through this process. This involves understanding what and why you want this change.
It also involves finding ways to maintain your energy during this period. When you express your energy and passion through your communication with pharma professionals, you become someone that people can get excited about. The key is that you can do it if you are willing to sacrifice enough to make it happen. Good luck!
