Should I List My References? NO, But I Would List the Social Categories of References
Playing your reference card very early in the job hunt exercise is a mistake. To use well-known names is “name dropping” and your own credibility hurdle just doubled in challenge; why does this person have to impress us with well-known names? To use names no one ever heard of is a “so what?” card and the hurdle on judgment also just doubled. So what should you do for references?
On the résumé, the generic “References Available” is a throw away. You can show a little social sophistication by expanding references to look more like the following:
